Faculty Services

USC’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a variety of services to support faculty in their teaching, research, and other professional activities.

For help with network connectivity and software, contact the consultants at the ITS Customer Support Center by emailing or calling 213-740-5555. Walk-in support is available in Leavey Library’s Information Commons, on the lower level. Visit the Customer Support Center page for additional information.

Some USC schools and departments maintain their own IT help desk. For information about the IT help provided by these schools and departments, visit the Local IT Support page.

Computing Accounts

USC Account Activation

In order to activate your USC email account, visit the Account Activation page.

Username and Password

ITS assigns all users a unique username based on their name. It is important that you create a secure password for your USC account. Please see the Security Overview page for information on creating a secure, or strong, password.

To protect your computing account and the university computer system, ITS recommends that you visit the Password Change page to change your password every six months.

Network Connections

For information about the different ways of connecting to the USC network from desktop computers, laptop computers, or from mobile devices, visit itservices.usc.edu/connect.

Email

Microsoft Office 365

The university has identified Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 product as the replacement for the university’s central email system for faculty and staff. Most USC employees with email accounts on the central email system will be scheduled to move to Office 365 on a departmental basis over the course of the 2013 calendar year. For more information on Office 365, including information on how it will be rolled out to the university, visit the Microsoft Office 365 page.

Central Email

USC faculty receive 4 gigabytes of email storage on the central email system. For information about email accounts and the email programs supported by the CSC, visit the Email Overview page.

All email on the university’s central email system that is older than one year will be deleted automatically and permanently from USC’s email servers. For instructions on how to archive your email on your personal computer, please visit the Saving Your Email page. If you would like to speak to an ITS staff member about moving and managing your email, please email or call 213-740-5555.

Departmental Email Accounts

Some schools and departments provide their faculty and staff with email accounts in addition to the central email system. To find out if your school or department has its own email system, contact your school or department’s local IT support.

Google Apps at USC

At this time, Google Apps at USC accounts are only available to USC students. USC faculty and staff are not eligible for these accounts.
