Information Technology Services provides loaner laptops at the general-use computing center in the Ahmanson Information Commons at Leavey Library.
Features
- Laptops are equipped with both the Windows 10 and Mac OS 12 Monterey operating systems.
- Laptops are equipped with the same software packages available on computing center desktops.
- Laptops can connect to the USC Guest Wireless and USC Secure Wireless networks, allowing you to work outside the computing center environment.
- Laptops may be checked out for four hours. You will be emailed confirmation of the laptop loan and required time of return.
- Late fees will be assessed for the late return of any laptop. See Pricing below for more information.
- Confirmation of the loan renewal and required time of return will be emailed.
Eligibility
- This service is only available to currently enrolled USC students with a valid USC Card.
- Students may be excluded from the laptop loan service at ITS’s discretion for repeated late laptop returns, damage, or loss of loaned laptops.
- PC Long-term Rental:No longer available.
- Short-term Rentals: Rentals available for up to 4 hours and can be extended for an additional 4 hours. Laptop rentals are available in the basement of Leavy Library. To reserve a laptop, please visit the ITS Desk. Our hours are 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. If you have any questions, please email spaces@usc.edu.
- You must present a valid USC card to be scanned and fill out the Student Laptop Loan Agreement.
Pricing
- First four-hour loan: No charge
- Four-hour renewal, if arranged prior to expiration of first four-hour loan: No charge
- Late return of loaned laptop: $20.00 for every 30 minutes late, up to the replacement coast of the laptop. Email reminders for late returns and late fees assessed are sent to the student.
NOTE: Computing accessories may also to be checked out by faculty, staff, and students at the USC Computing Centers. Available accessories include:
- HDMI and VGA adapters
- Cable bundles that include HDMI, Mini Displayport, VGA, and Audio adapters that can be used in the breakout rooms.

- Customized instruction on the use of specific equipment or a specific classroom is available for your convenience and individual needs by submitting a Request for Technology Orientation on the ITS Service Portal.

- Request learning space and audiovisual systems design, consulting, and project management services on the ITS Service Portal.
- Reserve a Classroom through the Office of Academic Records and Registrar Office.

Student Laptop Loan Agreement
I agree that I am responsible for returning this laptop on time in the same condition as when I borrowed it. I understand that:
- If, after an ITS staff inspection, it is determined that I damaged the laptop screen, hardware and/or casing, I will be charged repair or replacement costs.
- If after an ITS staff inspection, it is determined that I did not return all cables or accessories, I will be charged replacement costs.
- If I tamper with the equipment, I will be charged to repair or replace the laptop and any cables or accessories and may also be subject to disciplinary action.
- If I fail to return the laptop on time, to the same location from which I borrowed it, I will be fined $20 for the first 30 minutes and $20 for each successive 30 minutes after the due time, up to the total cost of a replacement laptop.
- ITS is not responsible for damage to data caused by viruses that may exist on the network or are spread through the network or from software malfunctions.
- ITS is not responsible for damage to external drives or any other devices plugged into the laptop.
- I cannot save files on the laptop’s hard drive and must save my files by copying them to another location (for example a USB flash drive). All files left on the laptop will be erased. ITS accepts no responsibility for lost files.

I understand that by borrowing this laptop, I am responsible for its return. I agree never to leave the laptop unattended or in someone else’s care. If the laptop is stolen while on loan to me, I am responsible for the entire replacement cost of the equipment.
