Centrex or Centranet Phone Line Installation
Centrex is an AT&T telephone line while Centranet is a Verizon telephone line. Both are analog or digital lines used as a substitute for a business telephone system. If you can dial a five-digit extension rather than the seven-digit phone number to reach someone on campus, then you are on one of these systems. Centranet is associated with the following prefixes and is available on the Health Sciences and University Park campuses:

For locations off campus, Centrex may be available with five-digit access. Not all off-campus locations have five-digit access back to the Health Sciences or University Park campuses. Centrex is associated with the following prefixes and is available on the Health Sciences and University Park campuses:

For the campus locations listed above, there are no monthly service charges associated with having a Centrex or Centranet telephone line, nor are there additional fees for the following features: call forward, call hold, call transfer, conference call, speed dial, and touch tone.
Avaya, Centrex, or Centranet telephone installation services are billed on an hourly basis.

In addition, there is a one-time charge that includes the vendor cost and software change. Please see the table below.

Data port activation not included in pricing.
NOTE: The charge to install a new line or to relocate an existing line does not include wire or cable installation (refer to Outlet Installation). Customers requesting to expedite a service will be charged the expedite rate per hour plus one-time fees associated with the service to expedite.
Off-campus Centrex Phone Line Installation
Centrex is an AT&T analog or digital telephone line used as a substitute for a business telephone system offering the following benefits:
- Centrex is a better analog line than the Measured Business telephone line for small, remote office locations that need to transfer phone calls to an external location.
- The price of a Centrex telephone line is almost identical to that of a Measured Business telephone line, and Centrex customers receive priority service from the carrier.
- Centrex offers a feature called Direct Inward Dial/Direct Outward Dial (DID/DOD) that allows you to transfer an incoming call to any other telephone number in the world. This is very useful for businesses with telecommuters and branch offices. Moreover, calls to other Centrex lines within the same area code and prefix are free.
The monthly charge for an off-campus Centrex telephone line does not include charges for toll and long-distance usage. Calls to 900, 976, or 700 services are not allowed on any university telephone. If cable and wire already exist up to the jack in the wall, the installation cost includes a service technician labor charge plus vendor installation charges. However, if cable and wire do not already exist up to the jack in the wall, Outlet Installation charges will also apply.

Measured Business Phone Line Installation
A Measured Business telephone line is the generic analog business line offered by local exchange carriers, including AT&T and Verizon. The typical Measured Business lines are used for stand-alone modems and fax machines.
The monthly charge for a Measured Business telephone line does not include charges for toll and long-distance usage.

Dedicated Phone Line Installation
Dedicated telephone lines are point-to-point circuits that bypass AT&T or Verizon in order to network two devices, e.g., card reader to a server, a remote monitoring device to a server, etc. There is no call usage associated with this service. However, if cable and wire do not already exist up to the jack in the wall, Outlet Installation charges will also apply.
|
NOTE: Dedicated circuits beyond the University Park and Health Sciences campuses will vary in price depending on the mileage between the two central office locations.
