DocuSign Account Roles

Each USC DocuSign eSignature account is assigned one of the five roles outlined below. By default, USC faculty, staff, students, and affiliates are considered USC Signers. Note that templates and PowerForms can only be created by users who have USC Author/Template Creator abilities or above.

Role Abilities Request and Approval Process
USC Signer View and sign documents only No request is needed.

University individuals are automatically set up as signers through the university identity management system. All that is needed is a @usc.edu email address and password to log in and sign documents.

Non-university individuals do not need a login/password to sign a document sent to them by a USC employee; however, they may be required to enter a code sent via SMS/Text message or another method before they are able to sign.

USC Sender USC Signer abilities plus:

  • Send documents, including using predefined forms and templates
If your department has a Department Unit Coordinator (DUC) or Delegated Administrator, ask your DUC or Delegated Administrator to create your login.

If your department does not have a DUC or Delegated Administrator, please contact the ITS DocuSign Admin Team through the DocuSign service request form.

USC Author/Template Creator USC Sender abilities plus:

  • Send custom/ad hoc documents; create and share predefined forms and templates with others.
If your department has a Department Unit Coordinator (DUC) or Delegated Administrator, ask your DUC or Delegated Administrator to create your login.

If your department does not have a DUC or Delegated Administrator, please contact the ITS DocuSign Admin Team through the DocuSign service request form.

Department Unit Coordinator (DUC) DUCs coordinate user needs to ITS, as the main point of contact for a school or unit’s department DocuSign account.

Author/ Template Creator abilities, plus:

  • Submit service requests on behalf of department users, such as adding and removing users, reporting issues, etc.
  • Assist users in template creation or other tasks needed
Departments may choose to appoint their own DUC to coordinate department DocuSign needs and requests with ITS, for efficiency and streamlining of processes. For assistance, please contact the ITS DocuSign Admin Team through the DocuSign service request form.
DUCs have full support from the DocuSign admin team in ITS.
USC Delegated Administrator (DA) DAs manage the school or unit’s DocuSign department account as the department’s administrator.

DUC Capabilities, plus:

  • Administration privileges (i.e., adding and removing users without needing to submit requests to ITS)
  • Reporting capabilities
  • User maintenance
  • Branding control
Departments may choose to appoint their own DA to handle department DocuSign activities, including advanced functional aspects. For assistance, please contact the ITS DocuSign Admin Team through the DocuSign service request form.

DAs have full support from the DocuSign admin team in ITS.
