USC’s state-of-the-art Digital Creative Lab (DCL), run by Information Technology Services (ITS) Learning Environments staff, welcomed a wave of students on the first day of classes.

The DCL is Located on the lower level of the Leavey Library, and houses a range of cutting-edge facilities, including an e-sport lab, production studio and podcast studios, plotters, 3D printers, classrooms, and study spaces, providing ample opportunities for students to explore and create.

But students aren’t the only ones causing a stir in the DCL, ITS’ Learning Environments Manager, Raj Singh, was recently featured on the cover and in an article of EdTech Magazine. The article highlights the lab’s use of cutting-edge broadcast solutions for eSports and Game Design and development.

ITS’ Learning Environments team partnered with manufacturers to provide a signature showcase space for USC Games and USC students.

“We want to prepare our students for the workforce, and that means creating a ‘sandbox’ (a place where technology is tested) within which they can participate,” explains Raj Singh, manager of learning technologies design and engineering at USC. “Our cinema school, our journalism school, they have broadcast-tier production studios, so when students go to work for companies, it’s an easy transition. We wanted that same experience. Having a space like this gives them the opportunity to hone their craft and take it to the next level.”

“I’m very proud of what our Learning Environments team has accomplished. The Digital Creative Lab is another example of ITS’ top priority to enhance the student experience. It provides a space where students can experience the latest in cutting-edge solutions,” adds Midhat Asghar, Interim Chief Information Technology Officer and Deputy Chief Information Officer of ITS.
