Sophos Endpoint Security

Sophos security software is designed to detect, remove, and prevent the spread of viruses, spyware, and other security risks. This section contains information on the versions of Sophos available at USC and instructions on how to install the software.

Versions of Sophos Available at USC

There are several versions of the Sophos available for free download at software.usc.edu/antivirus:

For Personal Devices

  • Sophos Home: This version is available to USC faculty, staff, and students—is intended to protect personal devices running the Windows and Mac operating systems.

For Windows Computers Connected to the USC Networks

For Macintosh Computers Connected to the USC Networks

  • Sophos Endpoint Security 9.6.7 (Mac): This version—available to all USC faculty and staff, and students—is for use on USC-provided computers connected to the USC wired and wireless networks. You must uninstall your current antivirus software before you install Sophos Endpoint Security 9.6.7 (Mac).

For Linux Users

  • Sophos Endpoint Security 9.8.5 (Linux): This version—available to all USC faculty, staff, and students—is for use on all computers running the Linux operating system. It has been tested on Ubuntu 14.04 and RHEL 6.4 and ITS cannot guarantee that it will work on other versions of Linux.

Uninstalling Previous Antivirus Software

Please note that to successfully install Sophos Endpoint Security 9.6.2 (Mac), you will first need to uninstall any non-Sophos antivirus software previously installed on your computer. Sophos Endpoint Security 10.7 (Campus) and Sophos Endpoint Security 10.7 (Home and Mobile) will automatically uninstall any previously installed version of Symantec Endpoint Protection on your Windows computers.
