Google Drive Apps for Desktop and Mobile Devices

You can access your Google Drive files by going to www.usc.edu/google from a web browser or through desktop (Windows and Mac OS X) and mobile (Android and iOS) apps. This page will explain how to download these apps and configure them up to access your USC Google Drive files.

Google Drive for Windows

Download and Install the App

To download and install the Google Drive for Windows app:

  1. From a Windows computer, go to www.google.com/drive/download.
  2. Click Download for PC.

  4. On the Download Google Drive for Windows screen, click Accept and Install.

  6. Once the file has finished downloading, open your Downloads folder and double-click the googledrivesync file to begin the installation.

  8. On the Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC warning screen, click Yes.
  9. On the Installation Complete screen, click Close.

Configure the App

To configure the Google Drive for Windows app to access the files in your USC Google Drive account:

  1. As soon as Google Drive has finished installing, the Welcome to Google Drive screen will appear. Click Get Started.

  3. The Sign in to Google Drive screen will appear. Enter your USC email address and then click Next.

  5. On the USC single sign-on screen that appears, enter your USC NetID username and password and then click Sign in.

    NOTE: If you are administrative faculty or a staff member, you will be asked to verify your identity with Duo.

  7. On the Add your files to this folder screen, click Next.

  9. On the Your files go with you screen, click Next.

  11. On the Share files with others screen, click Next.

  13. On the Welcome to Google Drive (Step 4 of 4) screen, choose the folders you want to sync and then click Next.

  15. On the You’re all set! screen, click Done. Your Google Drive folder will automatically open and begin syncing.

Your Google Drive folder will now be accessible from the Quick Access section of the File Explorer and from the Google Drive icon in your Windows task bar.

Google Drive for Mac

Download and Install the App

To download the Google Drive for Mac app:

  1. From a Mac computer, go to www.google.com/drive/download.
  2. Click Download for Mac.

  4. On the Download Google Drive for Mac screen, click Agree and download.

  6. On the next screen, choose Save File and then click OK.

  8. Go to your Downloads folder in Finder and double-click the installgoogledrive.dmg file.

  10. On the Install Google Drive screen, drag the Google Drive icon into the Applications folder and then close this window by clicking on the red jewelin the upper left-hand corner of the window.

Configure the App

To configure the Google Drive for Mac app to access the files in your USC Google Drive account:

  1. As soon as Google Drive has finished installing, go to your Applications folder and click the Google Drive icon.

  3. If you are asked if you want to open the program, click Open.

  5. On the Welcome to Google Drive screen, click Get Started.

  7. On the Sign in to Google Drive screen, enter your USC email address and click Next.

  9. The USC NetID sign in screen will appear. Enter your USC NetID username and password and click Sign in.

  11. On the Add your files to this folder screen, click Next.

  17. On the You’re all set! screen, click Sync options to choose which folders to sync with your Mac. Once you have chosen the folders to sync, Click Next to be taken back to the You’re all set! screen.

  19. Click Done to finish the configuration.

    You can now access your files by clicking the Google Drive icon at the top of your screen and clicking the Open Google Drive folder:

Google Drive for Mobile Devices

To download the Google Drive app for Android or iOS devices, click the links below from your mobile device. When prompted for an email address and password during the installation, use your USC NetID email address and password.
